Cheese straws

Laden with energy, protein and calcium, these straws will serve as a perfect snack in between meals for your child. Your toddler will love these straws because of their crispy and crunchy texture, which also enhances the chewing ability of your little one.

Baking Temperature : 200°C (400°F).
Preparation Time : 15 mins.
Baking Time : 20 mins.

Makes 35 straws.

1 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
1/3 cup butter
4 tablespoons cheese, grated
2 pinches salt
1. Sieve the flour and add the salt.
2. Rub the butter into the flour with your fingertips till the mixture resembles bread crumbs.
3. Add the cheese and mix well.
4. Add ice-cold water (approx. 1 tablespoon) and make a dough.
5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured board to about 6 mm. (¼”) thickness.
6. Cut into 50 mm. (2″) long strips using a knife.
7. Arrange the straws on an ungreased baking tray and bake in a pre-heated oven at 200ºC (400°F) for 10 to 12 minutes.
8. Cool completely and store in an air-tight container.
