Sesame brittle (til chikki)

Everyone loves crisps and toddlers are no exception to it. Til chikki is particularly irresistible because of its texture and flavour. Til and jaggery both make the chikki highly rich in iron. This chikki is also a good way of encouraging independence in your child as she will learn to hold it and chew it on her own.

Preparation Time : 10 mins.
Cooking Time : 10 mins.

Makes 10 pieces.

Ingredients
1/2 cup sesame seeds (til), roasted
1/3 cup jaggery (gur), grated
1/2 teaspoon ghee
Other ingredients
1/2 teaspoon ghee for greasing
Method
1. Grease the back of a flat thali with ghee and keep it aside.
2. Heat the ghee in a pan and add the jaggery to it. Simmer till it forms hard ball when it is dropped in water.
3. Add the roasted til and mix thoroughly.
4. When the mixture is ready, pour it over the greased thali. Roll it into a thin layer using a greased rolling pin. (Remember to grease your hands too).
5. Cut into square pieces when it is still warm. Cool completely.
6. Store in an air-tight container.
Tips
VARIATION: PEANUT BRITTLE
You can use ½ cup of roasted and coarsely powdered peanuts instead of sesame seeds as variation.
